STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

Everything you need to do, in order, so you don't miss a step.

This walks through the exact workflow — from your very first SDS upload to a finished, printable True Chemical Inventory. Follow it top to bottom the first time; after that, you'll only need Steps 2 and 4 for new products.

STEP 01

Create your account

Takes about a minute. You'll need your practice name, an email, and a password.

1

Go to chemsweep.com and tap "Get started"

This opens the signup flow — four short steps, with a progress bar at the top so you always know how much is left.

2

Enter your practice name, email, and a password

Use the email you check regularly — this is also where a password reset link would go if you ever need one.

3

Choose your plan

Founding or Standard — both give you full access to every feature, including the True Chemical Inventory.

4

Read and confirm the agreement step

Four checkboxes plus your typed name and title — this is standard for any compliance software, confirming you understand what ChemSweep does and doesn't do.

5

Complete payment

You'll land on your dashboard immediately after — nothing else to set up before you start adding products.

STEP 02

Add the SDS you already have

Most offices already have digital SDS from their supplier's portal — start there, no scanning required yet.

1

Tap "Add Chemical"

This is for products that aren't in ChemSweep yet at all.

2

Tap "Or upload SDS PDF to auto-fill"

Select the SDS file — digital/downloaded or a clear scan both work.

3

Let it read the document

ChemSweep reads Section 1 (product name, manufacturer) and Section 3 (chemicals and CAS numbers) and fills in the form for you.

4

Check the fields, then tap Save

The SDS file attaches to the product automatically — nothing extra to upload separately.

Important: only use "Add Chemical" for products that genuinely aren't in the system yet. Using it on a product that already exists creates a duplicate entry — see Step 3 for products you already have.
STEP 03

Enrich products already in the system

If a product's already listed but doesn't have its chemicals or first-aid info pulled in yet, this is the button that fixes that — without creating a duplicate.

1

Open that specific product's detail page

Tap it from your product list, not "Add Chemical."

2

Tap "Attach/Replace SDS PDF" (or "Re-run extraction" if an SDS is already attached)

Select or confirm the SDS file for this exact product.

3

ChemSweep extracts and updates that same product

Section 3 (chemicals + CAS) and Section 4 (first-aid) get filled in on the existing record — no new entry created.

4

If the product name doesn't match, you'll get a flag instead of a silent overwrite

ChemSweep checks the SDS's Section 1 name against the product you opened, and tells you if they don't match rather than guessing.

Why this matters: this is how you go from "SDS on file" to a real True Chemical Inventory — one product at a time, safely, with zero duplicate risk.
STEP 04

Sweep your space for what's missing

Once everything you already have on file is in the system, walk the office and compare shelves to the list.

1

Print or pull up your current product list

Go room by room, comparing what's on the shelf to what's already in ChemSweep.

2

For anything missing, check for an SDS first

Manufacturer website, supplier portal, or a QR code on the bottle itself often has it digitally — saving you a scan.

3

Add it via "Add Chemical" (Step 2) since it's genuinely new

This is the one case where "Add Chemical" is exactly right — it's not in the system at all yet.

4

Can't find an SDS anywhere?

Check Step 7 first — some things (certain drugs, tissue products, medical devices) genuinely don't have one, and you're not missing anything.

This step is faster than it sounds: because Step 2 already got most of your inventory in digitally, this sweep is usually a short list of gaps, not a full shelf-by-shelf inventory from scratch.
STEP 05

Read your True Chemical Inventory

This is the page that turns everything you just entered into an actual chemical-level inventory.

True Chemical InventoryBy chemical
Isopropanol — CAS 67-63-04 products
Hydrogen peroxide — CAS 7722-84-13 products
1

Tap "🧪 True Chemical Inventory" from your home screen

Two view toggles at the top: "By Chemical" and "By Product."

2

By Chemical: see every unique chemical and everywhere it's found

Tap any product name under a chemical to jump straight to that product's detail page.

3

By Product: see each product and its full chemical breakdown

Use this view when you're holding a bottle and want to know what's in it.

4

Use the search bar to jump straight to a chemical, CAS number, or product

Works across whichever view you're currently on.

⚠ No CAS badge: if a chemical shows this, it means the SDS didn't list a CAS number, so ChemSweep matched it by name only rather than guessing at a merge. Worth a quick manual check if you see it.
STEP 06

Print for your binder or an inspection

OSHA inspections aren't scheduled in advance — having a printed copy ready means you're never caught flat.

1

From the True Chemical Inventory page, tap the 🖨 print icon top-right

Opens a clean, print-ready version of whichever list you're viewing.

2

In the print dialog, open "More settings"

Check "Headers and footers" — this adds automatic page numbers, which matters once your list gets long.

3

Print or save as PDF

Either works — printed for the physical binder, PDF if you'd rather keep it digital-only.

STEP 07

Know what doesn't need an SDS

Before you go hunting for an SDS that doesn't exist, check this list — it'll save you real time.

CategoryExampleWhat to keep instead
Exempt drug — final dosage formAlbuterol inhaler, Narcan nasal sprayManufacturer patient info sheet
Biologic / tissue productBone graft allograft materialTissue processor's package insert
Medical deviceOral wound dressing (e.g. PerioStōm)Instructions-for-use insert
These categories are outside OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard entirely (29 CFR 1910.1200) — not a gap in your inventory, just a different kind of paperwork.
STEP 08

If you ever get locked out

Forgetting a password happens — here's how to get back in without losing anything.

1

On the sign-in screen, tap "Forgot password?"

Right below the password field.

2

Enter your account email and tap "Send reset link"

You'll get an email with a link — check your inbox (and spam folder, just in case).

3

Click the link and set a new password

You'll be dropped right back at sign-in to log in with it — nothing else changes.
